Over dit concert
“Flamenco is a kind of music originating from the southern part of Spain, Andalusia. There, the existing local music Andaluz, rich in elements of baroque, basque as well as Arabic and Byzantine music, was united with the gypsy culture and was born what we know today as flamenco. Rhythms of Africa and twelve meters, the polyphonic harmony of Europe alongside the so contrasting monophonic musical heritage of the Arabs, united and formed the basis for the creation of this distinctive musical tradition expressing the joy of life, love, sadness of death, separation, the difficult life of mines, the persecution suffered by gypsies, rural life, and so on.
Flamenco, rich in emotions and musical motifs, has evolved to this day without deviating from its roots. In 2010, UNESCO included Flamenco on the World Heritage Site.”
